A gallant Nigerian soldier in these pictures is deactivating Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) using his bare hands without any protective covering.

“Gallant brave soldier! May God continue to guide and protect all of them,” AbokiDaWarriBoy wrote.
“Wow! God bless this man! God bless Nigeria! Boko Haram end here you come,” Timileyin Blessing noted.
“The braver person is the civilian taking the pictures. I will never forget a video I watched a few years back where one police man/military man tried something like this in the north, and he was blown to bits,” Kayode Odusanya recalled.
“Well done, darkness shall never triumph over light, we shall win this war against terrorism. The terrorists shall henceforth make mistakes in their operations and in the construction of the IEDs. It will always explode on them alone. More Grease to us elbow! May Allah be your guide heroes! Amen,” Fawaz Jolaoso wrote.

However, according to some people, deactivating bombs with bare hands is “pure stupidity” because soldier’s life might be lost.
“This ain’t brave but extremely STUPID! Nothing brave about this. Where are his Personal Protective Equipments???” Ikenna Obi wondered.
“Pure stupidity!!! Every day for the thief one day for the owner of the house. Stupid soldier, oyibo no dey detonate IEDs with bare hands. You have only one life. Continue to play with it. A few years ago, we watched a ”gallant” MOPOL blown up by same stupid act. Please, wear protective gear and save us the trauma of looking at you attempt suicide. Good luck!!!”
“God blesses the heroes of our land Nigeria…Though it is no bravery because life might be lost, but he took it upon himself that instead of scores to die, it is better he becomes the sacrificial lamb. That is love for his people….May God bless all true gallants… We’ll win in the end… Amen,” Ikgabriel wrote.
“This is extremely reckless. We shouldn’t label this as “bravery”! Let’s plead with the government to properly equip our soldiers with the necessary equipment and training to perform their duties. This soldier would be sent straight back to the base for a “psych eval” if this were anywhere but Africa!” Custom Cars noted.
