Why APC’s Logo Was Removed From Saraki’s Twitter Page - Spokesman

Nigeria’s senate president, Bukola Saraki, has dismissed reports and insinuations on micro blogging site, Twitter, about the possibility of him decamping from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) following the removal of the logo of the APC from his verified twitter page.

Early on Sunday, September 20, Twitter users noticed the removal of the APC name and flag from Saraki’s official profile twitter page with many suggesting that the Kwara state born politician could be on his way out of the party.
His verified Twitter biography previously read, in part, “Member of the APC” but now reads “Senate President and Chairman of the 8th National Assembly. Committed to Transparency and Accountability.”



Saraki however denied the speculations. In a telephone chat with Saraki’s special adviser on media, Yusuph Olaniyonu, he said explained that the removal of the APC logo from Saraki’s handle was to give him a pan Nigerian identity in place of a party identity.
“Maybe we should have issued a statement when we removed the party flag and name from his page. But this was done to give him (Saraki) a pan Nigerian look since he is the Senate president and chairman of the 8^th national assembly. He is responsible for the APC senators, PDP senators and others.

“The flag and name of APc was used during electioneering and since his emergence as Senate president, its appropriate that he wears a national look” he told our reporter.
Several corruption cases have surfaced since Saraki emerged Senate President but Saraki thinks the cases against his person are “not an anti-corruption driven case and cannot be part of the moves aimed at fighting corruption,” his media office said in a statement on Wednesday, September 16, 2015.
He also links the various corruption cases to his political enemies within the APC who believe he nurses a presidential ambition come 2019.
Meanwhile, Saraki recently offered explanations as to what informed his decision to snub the code of conduct tribunal on Friday September 18, 2015. In a statement issued in this regard, he accused the tribunal of pursuing a political agenda and stated their stand.
