Nigerian media landscape has been recently abundant in
stories about various personalities who have in possession at least one
private jet.
While some do not hide the fact of aircraft ownership, the others deny reports, which transpire accidentally.
President Muhammadu Buhari has several jets. Earlier this year reports broke that
the Nigerian leader had ordered sale of nine aircraft from the presidential fleet to cut the cost of governance. But nope, the information eventually turned out to be misleading.
Some of those who have a personal jet reportedly include Diezani
Alison-Madueke, Ayo Oritsejafor, David Oyedepo, T.B. Joshua, among
others. Interestingly, quite many names of pastors, who are expected to
be closer to people of their congregations.
Nigerians would not be surprised to find out soon that the list of
private jet owners among clergymen is much longer than the one we
currently have.
What does surprise people is actually the following: Why would so many renowned pastors need one or even several jets?
1. To have an expensive toy?
Expensive cars, new versions of mobile phones, chick clothes… and a
private jet. This could be a success criterion showing one’s
achievements in life.
2. To fly in style?
Looks like business class is not enough. Is it because the famous
person does not want to be bothered by neighbours? Or simply because
humbleness is not something to interfere with comfort?
3. To invest in property?
Maybe, it is because in the course of the nowadays economic situation
property is a more reliable “currency”? Just a suggestion… Investing
not only in property, but also in jet annual maintenance.
Imagine: all of a sudden you decided to jet off to the United States.
Just right now, cannot wait, the matter of life and death. Still, every
trip takes time, at least for the crew to get prepared and prepare the
aircraft.
