Popular media personality and daughter-in-law
to late Ooni of Ife, Dolapo Marcy Oni who recently had her traditional
wedding in Lagos, is all set for her white wedding which would be taking
place in London, next month.
Dolapo Oni speaks on career, marriage and her husband Adegbite Sijuwade.
Congratulations on your marriage.
Thank you.
How does it feel to be married?
It feels great. I feel truly blessed.
How did you meet your husband?
We met in Abuja. I was there for the weekend during Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Inauguration. We met through a friend.
What was the first attraction?
He made me laugh. That’s how I noticed him.
What brought your talk show “Marcy’s Project”?
I always wanted my own talk show and the time just seemed right. The idea came about a year and a half ago and I’m so happy it all came together this year.
Why that choice of name?
Marcy is my first name. And the show is a conventional talk show. There’s a project that I take part in every week. It can be fun wacky and very random. So I named it The Marcy Project.
What were the challenges of setting it up and how much did it gulp?
I think when you first venture out on your own it can be quite daunting. I have a lot of television experience. But that is mainly in front of the camera. So being the Executive Producer as well as the host was a very new territory. But like anything practice makes perfect and I have a great team that I work with.
Can you tell us more about the show?
The Marcy Project is a 30-minute fun, lifestyle and entertainment program. In every episode, I perform a quirky, funny and interesting project and interview celebrities and upcoming acts. It’s currently on “Africa Magic Showcase DSTV Ch 151” Tuesdays at 6:30pm and repeated Wednesday at 11:30am.
Will you abandon your acting career to focus more on this new project?
Not at all I do both. I also have a movie coming out in November, titled “Diary of a Lagos Girl”.
What inspires your fashion?
I’m inspired by clean cuts. I like simple elegant clothing and I love pieces that are timeless.
What is the most expensive fashion item you have ever bought?
That would be my wedding dress.
What more should your fans expect from you?
My fans should expect more fabulous entertainment which includes plays, movies and TV shows.
What is your greatest philosophy of life?
Be yourself, everyone else is taken.
What would you never be caught wearing?
I would never be caught wearing a turban.
How would you describe your husband in one word?
He is my “Soulmate”.
Dolapo Oni who hails from Ijebu-Ode in Ogun state, hosted a TV talk-show on “Ebony Life TV” before setting up her own media outfit.
